JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:               Election Assistant

 POSITION PURPOSE:   This position is responsible for assisting the County Clerk/Election Commissioner in managing voter registration and the conduct of elections in Dawson County, NE.; Accountable for honest, impartial and accurate efforts to maintain the public confidence of our county elections.

 FUNCTIONS:   Voter Registration is the primary function in this position.  On going entry of new registrations and updates in the state-wide database according to state and federal laws, which includes but are not limited to, determining voter precincts; Mail identification cards, and resolve incomplete registrations; Bar code and scan registrations into database; Maintain filing system of voter registration; Assist with voter registration drives; Process undeliverable mail and NVRA mailing; Remove voters who are deceased or have moved out of the state or county; Process Early Voting requests and ballot status during elections and prepare Provisional Ballots for Canvass Board.

 SUPPORT FUNCTIONS:   Processing UOCAVA and FPCA according to federal regulations; Petition processing by verifying signatures and recording in database; Support poll workers and maintain precinct packs before and after each election; Answer telephone messages and interact with the public by providing answers to their questions and support as requested in guidance with office procedures; Maintain records according to all state and federal requirements; perform various clerical duties such as typing correspondence, entering data into spreadsheets, processing department mail, and photocopying.

Ability to meet inflexible deadlines
Able to deal with stress that accompanies deadlines
Able to work extended hours necessary to meet deadlines
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work independently
Able to maintain the confidentiality of non-public information
Extensive organizational skills
Ability to occasionally lift and carry election supplies

Desirable but not essential:
Bi lingual

Salary dependent on level of skill
